    Things I learned About Life Over The Past Decade ( 2010 – 2019 )

2019 What a year that was ! So much had happened and full of surprises both good and bad. But a start of a whole new decade makes me think back of the whole 10 years and what I’ve been through during that period. It was also the time that I was new to motherhood and trying to figure out on how to balance marriage, parenthood and your own well being. That decade was the start of full blown adulting. Every decision I make or we make as a couple ties in to our marriage, our lifestyle and of course, our kids. It wasn’t easy. And by saying that, I have a lump in my throat. It’s not easy girl, it’s not easy. I’m sure it’s not just me who went through the hard times, we all are. It could be more or less that I’ve been through. But the endurance of pain and hardship is subjective. What matter is, we survived each passing day and we’ve come far all along.

Here are a few things that the 2010s taught me about life……..

    Self – Care

Identifying what self-care really is. Purely subjective, because what self-care for one, is not for the other . Also we changed. Confession here, I used to shop a lot. When the kids were little, going to the mall was an escape for me and come home with a bunch of stuffs that I don’t really need. I justified myself by saying ” I’m so tired, i deserve it. ” At that period, it gives me joy. No regrets at all. I was happy ! But, it came to a point where it doesn’t serve me anymore. Don’t get it twisted, I still shop. There is nothing really wrong with that . But I wanted something else and what was the idea of “self-care” to me, it’s not anymore. Nowadays, that my kids have grown (but still little). I want something else and yes, I’m on a mission. I’m doing a lot of soul searching and trying new things. It’s going to be a lot of trial and error but I’m hoping for the best. At this point, what does self care really means to you ?

    Establishing a habit

This was crucial to me especially in the beginning of motherhood. It was just me and my husband. We have no outside help. When my husband goes to work even if he works at home, I’m on my my own. I feel lonely. It also comes with the territory of motherhood, we all feel lonely and isolated at some point or the other regardless if you have a husband, family or friend who helps you. It’s because you are a mom and you know you have a big responsibility to your child. It’s not just about you anymore. A lot of things to consider and a lot of sacrifices.

So establishing a habit was hard, but i started it little by little. Little goals. I remembered when I first had a newborn, my goal was to take a shower everyday. I don’t care what time it is. My point is sticking to that habit and be committed even if the act is so little.

Then years go by my habits changed and little goals became big goals. 2010s was a period of health and wellness became a priority and slowly adapting my diet and workout as part of my lifestyle without being so obsessed with ones appearance but with how you feel with your body. I eat and work out to make me feel good and not to gain six pack abs. What a goal right ? I don’t care what you say. Because for me if my goal is to have a six pack, it stresses me out. Even bodybuilders couldn’t maintain a six pack, some do but it’s not healthy. That’s why there is an off season and on season for a reason.

So to continue….. When I’m stressed out, it translates to everyone in the household. It’s not pretty guys, it’s not pretty. I need to know where I’m comfortable at and my balance.

Be optimistic and have a fighting spirit

Sometimes you’re the one standing in your way. There are things that we’ve been meaning to do but we don’t do it because we don’t have time or whatever. Step back and figure out some changes to attain those goals.

2010s was a decade full of self-discovery and yes, the time my blog was born. I enjoyed journaling even when i was as a child and having a blog is just natural for me. But making a blog into a business is a different story and put me into the highs and lows mentally and physically. There is a lot involved to keep it running. I wish it’s just all about taking pretty pictures and writing but it’s not. There are lot of things to figure out especially how fast digital and social media evolves. Most big blogs/vlogs are run by a team and when you have a little blog and do things like how these big blogs work. It takes a toll on you. There were times that I’m about to give up but a lot of times it makes me feel grateful and blessed.

Through my blog I’ve been judge. I don’t really talk about these things a lot because I want to keep it positive but yes, I feel it. I don’t hear it , I don’t make noises about it . But I felt it, i feel it. That’s how being optimistic and fighting spirit comes into play. Also, you have to accept that you can’t serve everyone.

    Speak Up

We all know that to get your point across and to get what you want, you got to speak up. As a filipino immigrant being married to an American, at some point and time getting your point across is a challenge. You have different cultures and upbringing, of course there will be clash.

Since 2010’s was the infant stage of our marriage, it taught me to speak up at a right place and a right time on getting my point across without getting on each other’s nerves. I’m not saying I’m already an expert on this. It’s a work on progress but practicing good communication is really essential. I have no marriage tips guys. All I can say marriage is work and it’s not all fairy tales. When someone tells me their marriage is flawless and perfect, it’s a lie.

In regards to personal . As an immigrant, communicating with Americans other than my husband and our inner circle is important to me. My blog and social media taught me a lot. Good and bad. One of the reasons why I went back to work dental assisting last 2019, was because I want to hone my communication skills, be a part of a group and learn from it. One on one interaction is obviously different from social media and the community of it.

If you are an immigrant in the States fresh from your homeland. Venture out, engaged and learn from it. You’ll be amazed of how these people’s lives and actions speaks to you, taught you, amazes you and inspires you.

    Don’t Take Things Personally

Well, it’s case to cases basis but most of the time they are not worth your time. So don’t take it personally and most of the time it’s not about you. It’s them, it speaks on their personality and who they truly are. And if you’ve been rejected , ignored etc. It’s not an expression of your self worth. Maybe it’s a sign that it’s not meant to be or not a match of who you are and what truly aligns with your values. It’s not a reflection of who you are.

    Definition Of Your Success

We all have stages in life. Don’t let anyone define success for you. Define it yourself.

Whatever stage in your life right now, keep going, keep hustling, keep fighting and if you are stay at home with little kids, embrace those moments and hug them tighter because they grow so fast like a blink of an eye. It’s okay if you read that same book 100 times. It’s okay if they still want to be tuck in bed. It’s their safe place to make one on one conversation with you.

If you are a working mom, it’s okay if you can’t pick them up from school and sometimes they have to make their own afternoon snacks or dinner perhaps. They need to learn to be independent and to thrive on their own. Keep going and take them along with your success.

I could have made this blog post even longer, since I have so many insights throughout the past decade. This post is even longer than I expected.

To sum it up, it was a the most challenging, memorable and eventful decade of my life. It was a chapter of my mom’s loss, the blur life and triumphant life of marriage and motherhood, helped my family in the Philippines by giving them opportunities, an aha moment when i started my blog and monetizing from it and serving humanity as my part time job. I think i did pretty good. Hopefully by the time when I say ” I arrive” on my version of success, it is what I want to be.

Thank you for reading and have great day….

    Thanksgiving Charcuterie Centerpiece

The holidays are coming ! I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next Thursday ! Did you made plans yet ? Are you dining out , dining in or hosting ? Either way, spending time with the family on Thanksgiving is always the best.

In my case, I always host Thanksgiving ever since my first child was born. Me and my husband don’t have a big family. It is exhausting but also rewarding. The memories we have in our humble home every holidays is beautiful and i’m very grateful. Also, I feel like i’m in charge when it comes to holiday entertaining. So i just accidentally took that role and when i do it, i sometimes go a little extra. I’m quite crafty when it comes to entertaining.

So this year’s Thanksgiving, I would like to feature my Charcuturie board as my centerpiece. It’s like last year’s ( post here ) but different. I added more colors and jewel tones in this tablescape. I also want to keep the floral arrangements to be minimal or at least below eye level, that way it’s not hard to have a conversation to the person across the table. I want it to look nice but also practical and the charcuterie board is a perfect centerpiece for that reason. We all know that food is a natural conversation starter and good presentation is always delightful.

Review: Disney On Ice presents Dream Big

We always look forward to Disney On Ice tour year after year at Little Caesars Arena here in Detroit. Check out our previous post from other tours we attended, here and here.

In this Disney On Ice presents Dream Big, they featured four stories of Moana , Coco , Little Mermaid and Frozen. If you don’t know, they feature stories of Disney characters in every tour. So be in a look out on what’s being featured when the tour is in your area. Though they always have the classic characters Mickey and Minnie on every tour. A lot of times, there are appearances of the classic Disney princesses like Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine and much more.

As always, Disney maintained it’s high reputation in entertainment and production. Even your three years old will be glued to it because of the upbeat music, colorful sets and costumes and the fast paced production. Definitely entertaining !

We started watching Disney on Ice tours when our eldest was three years old and brought both kids together when our youngest was almost three years old. She is six years old now. I really enjoyed this moment with them and certainly something they won’t forget. I mean, the kids have the opportunity to wear their Disney characters costumes , how fun is that !

My kids, especially my daughter always look forward to it. She’s always been so excited and even counted the days before the show. I would say it has been a part of our tradition year after year and I’m really grateful. To see them happy and hear them talk about their experience, it warms my heart and reminds me, these two are my why’s. They are my world. Parenthood is the most life changing and rewarding experience ever. Not to mention, so much fun and brings out the child like in you.

Growing up, I love everything about Disney and having to spend time with my kids watching the shows i grow up with, it’s pretty amazing. I love how Disney orchestrated these all together. It truly bonds the family from generation to generation.

Disney On Ice Dream Big is like other Disney On Ice shows as well, very spectacular, the figure skating is breath taking and the special effects are amazing. Since we go yearly, I would say they really keep up to date with technology when it comes to lighting , special effects and jaw dropping stunts. Your kids, including you will be transported to a world of imagination.

Here’s my daughter dressed in a fun Moana costume ! She have her Heihei hat that comes with the cotton candy that we bought. Also, she always have a soft spot with Frozen’s Elsa wand. Since we live in the Midwest, we have to improvise to make our Moana warm and toasty. Now, she’s ready for a snap. She loves it and me too ! Another for our memory box . They grow so fast , so soak in, live with the present and create those memories as much as you possibly can.

You can purchase your tickets online at Ticketmaster or for locals here in Detroit, you can purchase it online at 313presents and at the Xfinity box office at Little Caesars Arena.

Thank you so much for reading and have a fabulous day!

Thank you so much 313Presents !

Patriotic Theme Tablescape + Citrus Infused Water Recipe

As I’m writing this post, it’s just about time for Memorial Day . So, Happy Memorial weekend and may you had a great one. Currently right now in Michigan, we have scattered thunderstorms but that didn’t stop us from grilling some hamburgers and hotdogs . Still a great day guys, trying to stay positive here.

If you have been following me on the blog, you know I have quite an obsession with tablescapes and pretty much the concept of entertaining. Check out my previous post here. If you are new, Welcome to my little space and I’m so glad you are here today. I am honored.

Memorial theme tablescapes is pretty much straightforward patriotic theme which is inspired from the colors of the American flag red, white and blue. So i gathered all the American flag inspired colors and put them together. Did a little creativity to it and done.

    Dollar Store Find

What really makes me excited in this tablescape is what i found at the Dollar Store. Who doesn’t want a good deal ? Anyway, i found these mason jar lanterns, blue pebbles, white rocks and red led candles at the Dollar Store. I put them all together by layering the pebbles, rocks and led candles. Viola ! A great outdoor centerpiece. Not bad at all ! The rest of the stuffs are from Target and some of them I’ve had it for years.

Layering of Height for the Centerpiece

For my main centerpiece, I layered vases and jars in varying heights on a bark of wood tray. That way it looks interesting together with their simple floral arrangements. It looks like a mini garden in patriotic theme.

    All in the Details

For the little details, pretty straightforward the American flag. I stuck it in between the napkin ring. I love this napkin ring by the way, it will serve many entertaining purposes.

Grocery store bought cupcakes , very fancy ! Hey, it does a great job to make the table look more bountiful . I also love that the cake stand gives height on the tablescape. Yes to this last minute idea.

    Citrus Infused Water

During summer I love my citrus infused water. It’s refreshing and hydrating.

    Home for Christmas 2018

Hey ya’ll ! If you are an avid reader or a subscriber of my blog, I apologize for the late Christmas post. I was kind of contemplating of posting this blogpost because it is way too late. Christmas is totally over already. But i promise myself to journal our Christmas for memories sake. I unfortunately skipped last year for the same reason because it’s late and i really regret that. Our Christmas the year before that is here.

For that holiday season i decorated our humble home with white, silver and gold. For the past years, I’ve always had the traditional Christmas theme. It was decked out with red, white and gold decors . Plus a lot of plush toys ornaments so it looks fun for the kids. Check it out from this post, here.

Now that they’re a bit older , i attempted to make our tree to look elegant-ish. Kinda imitating the ones i see at the mall. While i like the look of it, my husband totally loves it ! Surprise, surprise because normally he doesn’t pay much attention to decorations. I think it’s because of the clean look that coincide with his minimalist personality. For somebody who is not fond of change, it is quite surprising.

I dressed up our dining table at Christmas eve dinner because it’s not everyday our table looking as good as this and besides it’s Christmas eve!

This was taken after Christmas eve church service. I made sure we get our family pictures taken before everybody get all busy preparing and eating for Christmas eve dinner. If you can’t tell, the kids are playing around with the self-timer remote. I wanna highlight the bloopers here. After all, it was a beautiful mess. #formemoriessake

Of course, the mother and daughter tandem looks. I tried to get the boys do a father and son twinning. They roll their eyes at me. They think they are too cool for that kind of stuff. #killjoy

This was taken at Christmas morning. It was fun, obviously. Per say ” It’s the most wonderful time of the year ! “. Gosh, it was our 10th year of celebrating Christmas together as a little family. All of these were just a dream when i was a little girl. Now here i am living the life i dreamed of. I am grateful for everything even the not so perfect moments. For that, there were lessons learned and it shaped me, it shaped us.

As we all know marriage and having kids test us with everything. Emotionally, physically and spiritually. There are not so great moments but there are amazing times that makes you so happy, it makes you question on what did i do in this world to deserve this. That kind of feeling. It’s the feeling of contentment, gratefulness and happiness. Even if we are broken human beings, even we are not a perfect family. I wanna look pass the hardship of married life and raising kids. I wanna remember these beautiful moments.

Thank you so much for reading !

    Year In Review 2018

Happy New Year everyone ! As for my first blog post for 2019, i would like to do a recap of our family highlights from last year. Disclaimer : It’s a long post as i’m trying to compressed those wonderful memories as much as i can.

I have so many contents and blogpost that i wasn’t able to publish that year because i wasn’t able to keep up and things went by so fast. So many ideas that i wasn’t able to execute. But why dwell on it ? Let’s move on and start a new slate for 2019. I hope this year will be as good or even better than last year.

Traveled with friends at Myrtle Beach and Charleston, South Carolina.

Last year, it felt like the longest winter ever. We had so much snow early in the season even up to almost spring time. So we and our family friends decided to go for a road trip together with our littles last Spring break. It was our first time going on vacation with friends with our kids. It was a lot of fun ! I still feel like it needs a separate blogpost because i have so much to say about the place and our memorable time together. But as for now i wanna mark it as one of my favorite memorable highlights that year. We felt so grateful for wonderful friends.

    Family Summer Vacations

Usually around summer break we don’t take long vacations because Michigan summer is great and we swim in the pool almost everyday. So we gotta take advantage of that. What we do, is take short road trips and getaways. So last summer we went to Columbus, Ohio. Read our post here and here. I felt so humbled and grateful for that opportunity and experience.

We’ve never been to Traverse City, Michigan as a family of four. So we thought a short trip Up North would be a great getaway idea before school starts. Another separate blog post that i plan to make this year as i want to share more about our trip.

Our youngest is already in Kindergarten

Now this one is a tear jerker for me. Our little girl is the closest we got of a baby is definitely no longer a baby at all. For 10 years of being a stay-at-home, i am so used to having a child on my hip while tagging along another child. It was a juggling act between the two and i can’t believe that time has come that both of them are going to school full day. My exhausted sleep deprived self from years ago hoped for this day as i was struggling to handle the mundane task. Now, i just can’t believe how time flies. I graduated the toddler – preschooler stage but i’m up for another challenge. This time to raised these two as great individuals to the society. I am a student for life especially when it comes to parenthood. So much trial and error. I’m really hoping for the best for them.

My eldest hits 10 years old milestone

My boy, the one who made me a mom is a decade old. Also, we notice a transition from being a little boy to an almost teenager. Ugh, i can’t type teenager. It gives me chills. I’ve heard that raising teenagers is the most challenging. If you are mom with teens. I will need all the tips. While we are not in that phase yet. Hopefully, Lucas won’t give us a hard time. So far, he has been really good at school, he gets along great with other kids, helps out a lot in the house with me and his dad. He takes care of his sister and just over all greatness. I am really praying and hoping for the best. I don’t ask or expect so much from them, i just want them to be happy. To be safe, to feel safe. I want them to be kind, resilient, responsible, make good decisions and the right choices.

It’s really what i pray and hope for everyday .

I’m the hostess with the mostess

I don’t know whose to blame here either me, my husband, my kids or my friends. But it seems like all the parties is in the house this year. My house is far from being grand. It’s not even close to being clean and organized but i tried to temporarily hide all my slack before the party hehehe. Regardless, this is the tenth year we lived in this house. I hosted so many parties and social gatherings. But i have to say i’m more low key now and prefer small intimate gatherings. My kids love it when i host parties in the house. They still request it up to this day. Sometimes i give in, sometimes we negotiate. As i’m thinking all the social gatherings that took place in this house, there were plenty. Not just mine but for our family and friends as well. It gives me that nostalgic feeling of good memories, lots of fun and laughter. It really all boils down to that. The memories you all share.

    Family and Friendships

This is probably a bit more personal and something that i don’t want to go into details. But somewhere along the line of friendships and relationship with family members, things happen. It’s a mixture of really good ones and not so great ones . My take away from all the happenings that year is to always be kind. Be the bigger person. Be humble. Be grateful. We are all getting older. All of us are going to that same direction. Do the good thing, do the right thing. Find the beauty of everything, appreciate little things and don’t take anything for granted.A life free of hate and guilt .All these are easier said than done right ? But words are a driving force. Exercise your mind everyday to be the best version of yourself .

    Blog Collaborations

The last but certainly not the least. I’ve worked with brands that i love .Brands that i’m proud to promote and align with my vision to serve my readers. I still have so much to learn and still navigating my way through. I’m so happy and grateful for all of you who is along with me. My hope and goal for 2019 is to serve you better.

Thank you soooo much from the bottom of my heart. I really hope for the best of us this 2019. Cheers!
